Step 6 (for Quantitative and Mixed Studies only)

Creation and Presentation of Data Sets

Sometimes at masters and doctorate degree level, the student will be required to present the data sets from the research study. Data sets are the specific packets of findings that informed the analysis of your data. Here, you are required to present a summary, in table form, of the various means, standard deviations, composite means and regression coefficients, found from conducting the study. This step requires quantitative data and therefore, only quantitative and mixed studies will apply. The Data Sets you will generate will be presented in the Appendix section of your document under the title, 'Data Sets'.

Data Set i: Demographics

The data on demographics represents the findings with relation to aspects described in the questionnaire that entail Age, Gender and similar prescribed attributes of the respondent. This data set is supposed to show the reader or supervisor that your study included the intended respondents. Remember, the generated results are to be presented in the Appendix section of your document.

Data Set ii: Data Sets for each Variable

Under each variable, these data sets are supposed to demonstrate how each construct under each variable affects the overall variable. Therefore the data sets will show how a change in one construct influences a change in another construct, and in the overall variable. The data sets can also rank the constructs in order of strength of influence.

Data Set iii: Correlation Matrix

Correlation matrix is a visual representation of how variables relate with each other and their individual strengths in the overall spectrum. This allows researchers to detect patterns, and multi-collinearity which measures the similarity of behavior between two or more variables hence enabling the researcher to decide whether variables are relevant in the study or not.

Data Set iv: Regression Coefficient

Regression coefficient measures the relationship between the independent variable(s) and the dependent variable. With this measure, the researcher will be able to demonstrate how a change in one independent variable causes a change in the dependent variable as the other independent variables remain constant. The researcher will also demonstrate the combined relationship of all the independent variables and the dependent variable.

Data Set v: Composite Mean

To demonstrate the composite mean, the researcher outlines all the respondents' responses and gives a cumulative mean and standard deviation in order to give a more rounded view of the respondents' sentiments. Therefore, if there are four hundred and twenty respondents, the composite mean will demonstrate four hundred and twenty responses for each independent variable and the dependent variable, giving a cumulative mean and standard deviation reading and resultant interpretation.
