To prepare you for your defense session, we will generate possible questions that you will be asked, and their corresponding answers based on your research document. To do this, we will require you to fill in the details of your research as outlined below.

Note:

i. It is the objective of the defense panel to look for flaws in your research study document. Therefore, expect to receive negative comments from the panelists with regards to your document, and with regards to you as a student and researcher. There are no parameters or regulations as to how defense sessions are to be conducted and as a result, panelists may sometimes be very negative, rude, and outright disrespectful to you.

ii. During those very negative episodes, maintain your cool and be very respectful to the panel. Do not be emotional. Go to the defense session expecting very negative comments. That way you’ll be emotionally prepared.

iii. Make sure you have done your part as a student and researcher by knowing and owning your document completely. You should be able to respond to any question without hesitation. Even if the answer you give is wrong, that’s not a problem, give that wrong answer like you own it.

iv. In research, there is no perfect document. Therefore, do not expect your document to be perfect especially in the eyes of your supervisor or the panelists’. When you are given corrections, take it as guidance and receive them positively. Always keep in mind that the panel is guiding you in the right direction.

v. Besides knowing and owning your research document, make sure you are well rested and your are adequately dressed for the defense session especially if the session is physical. If the defense session is virtual, make sure your electronic devices including your computer, microphone, and camera are in order, and have the defense session in an interruption-free environment.

vi. Lastly, be on time for the defense session, and make sure you allocate enough time for the session since some defense sessions can go on for hours. All the best in you defense.
